Lucrettia Elles was born in 1918 in Germany as WW1 ended and she grew up in a time of uncertainty, poverty and prejudice. However she was brought up in a large manor house where her parents kept her in a very protected environment and was home-schooled, so she knew little of the muggle world. However as she approached the age of 14, her parents were unable to keep her completely under their control as her brother began to get involved with gangs and tried to drag his sister with him. Lucrettia looked up to her brother Peter and would do anything for him.
Peter began to get involved in dangerous gangs as he was drawn into the madness. In the wizarding world of Germany many cult like rebellions were forming in support of Grindelwald. Her brother got caught up in one of the more violent gangs and soon her parents were fearing for the safety of their children. Grindelwald was gaining support in Germany and soon they were making plans to escape to Britain. The Elles had taught their children English so they were confident of a successful escape.
However the were unaware of what had been happening to their children in the mean-time.
Peter had slowly been drawn into a world of fanatical prejudice. Peter became convinced that his family were traitors and liars and were deceiving their daughter. In an attempt to save her, he introduced her, aged only 16, to his world of gangs and violence and hatred. Lucrettia soon became caught up in it and even started to believe some of the propaganda forced onto her by her brother, however she was never as obsessed as he was. Just months before their family was set to leave for England, Peter’s gang got into a fight with a new collection of people who had been brought into Germany by Grindelwald when he took over. They were vampires and quickly destroyed many of Peter’s gang. Of the ones remaining they demanded more people to join their army which was spreading across Europe with the help of Grindelwald, they were like his private army. Peter, terrified of the vampires, offered them his sister, convinced he would be allowed to see her after she had changed. She had just turned 17 and was a powerful witch, so was quickly accepted. On the 17th March 1935, Lucrettia Elles was changed.
Her brother never saw her again, neither did her parents as after the change she was whisked from the country and into Austria where she was trained to become part of the elite vampire army who planned to someday take over the whole of Europe. She can not remember much of her past life, her wand was broken and she was told to forget as much as possible. She remembers reading of her parents death many years later, though she never found out what happened to Peter. During her time in training she was referred to as number 156. She learned to hate not the muggles that she was told to loath. But the vampires who had changed her and the ones who now controlled her life. She was trapped in a life she hated with people she hated and no where to turn to.
In 1945 Grindelwald was defeated by Dumbledore and many of the vampire army and it’s leaders were caught and killed or locked up. She managed to escape to England where she tried to begin a new life, firstly by purchasing a new wand. But many things stood in her way, the world was harsher and crueller than she could ever have expected. She was rejected from everything, cast out onto the streets and hated because she was a vampire. Her resent grew and she became a bitter twisted woman as the years went on her, her hatred towards the light manifesting itself as she became futher and futher involved in the dark arts. However she never allied herself with Voldemort, for he was far to like her old master’s for her to join him.
In the 1950s she renamed herself Nyx, after the Greek goddess of the night. She also took her middle name Calliope from the muse of poetry and the last name Darter after her first friend in her human life.
She is bitter and angry and hates society and everyone with in it.
