Mal had been sitting in on the potions class for fifth years. He had a thing for the way Professor Snape taught the subject. There was just something in the man's way of teaching things that spoke directly to Mal. Mal was after all a potion crazed teenager. He had yet to get the nerve to actually say something to Snape about the way he taught through. Mal preferred to keep what he liked a secret. It was just better that way. However, it was no secret to anyone that the boy liked potions. However, while sitting in that class he had found a secret passage. It wasn't because he was not paying attention to Snape it was more because he well stumbled on the door.
It took him he was sure down to the basement under the classroom. It was a rather huge place to be and their were ingredients and books about potions everywhere. He was like a kid in a candy store. He was far too interested in what was there to worry about the fact that he wasn't supposed to be there. Of course that never really stopped Mal in the first place. He smiled to himself and took a look down one row browsing each self separately making sure not to pick up anything as to not move it from its perfect spot. Oh how he dreamed of having a room like this when he got older. He could spend hours. [/center][/blockquote]

Shendeth stepped back into the shadows of one of the dungeon passages, watching the fifth years as they emerged at the end of class. A black snake with dark green markings was draped around his shoulders. In the past he hadn't ever made much use of his gift, but Morticia had called out to him passing the pet shop in Diagon Alley at the end of this last summer, the very afternoon after he was reunited with his sister in fact.
The snake was intelligent and had a personality very like her owner, but maybe that was for the better. Shendeth was surprised to find himself valuing her companionship. At first it had seemed a little creepy to let her be on him like that, but by now he trusted her and wasn't intending to meet anyone. While his gift was not a secret he usually didn't do it in front of people or tell them about it unless they asked in case they had a reaction.
When it looked like all of the fifth years had gone on their way he walked forward and pulled open the door of the now deserted Potions classroom, having first checked to make sure the professor who taught there had left as well. He didn't think he would get into trouble but wasn't bothered to explain why he was there. It wasn't time for class, and so he instantly became more relaxed as the heavy door swung shut behind him. He was a natural at potions. Even though it was torture for most others, this room had always been a favorite place. Which led to him being here now. Sometimes he liked to experiment with potions on his own, and for that he needed interesting ingredients. Needless to say the potions he read about and tried weren't exactly the kind that would ever be taught in class.
Shendeth had stopped to take in the familiar smell and sight of the room, but at Morticia's bored nudge he moved over and pulled the trapdoor open. Although it was supposed to be off limits to students, the area beyond was one he had visited many times. He had to get interesting potion ingredients from somewhere after all. There was so much down here, things that weren't used in class. Even if he would get in trouble for being here, that wouldn't have stopped him. It wasn't something he had ever really cared about.
Picking up his bag he closed the door behind him and slowly descended the narrow stone steps, giving the snake a stroke. But at the bottom he stopped dead. He wasn't alone. Another boy was already in here. The stranger had Durmstrang robes, and was looking at the many shelves of potion ingredients with as much interest as Shendeth always felt when he took a trip here. He relaxed as he watched him. Surely, well hopefully his presence wouldn't do any harm.
"Hello." Shendeth said, walking into the room a little ways. "Impressive, isn't it? What are you doing here?"

Potions simply put in Mal's mind was the best class ever to be taught. Unlike even some in his school potions did not come hard for him. He was born with the inate ability to make potions and come up with different ones as well. It was in making different ones that he discovered a pain reliever potion that had different ingredients that were more natural then other such potions and worked well for Stella when she had a headache of sorts. He also came up with a relaxent potions that had much the same effect on Stella. However, Stella shared the love for potions as well so it was usually the two of them trying not to blow up the classroom as the came up with rather entertaining things that didn't amount to anything and some that did. They had attempted beyond deadly combinations and surprising found that at times certain combinations of things could turn even the bad into a good thing. Next to potions was linguistics for him. Still potions could keep him entertained for hours on end and if one wanted to find him he was usually at the apothercary, in places he shouldn't be, and inside the potions classroom.
At the moment however he was browsing through the Hogwarts potions basement. He wondered if there were even more entertaining things in the Potions masters personal closet. Of course out of repect for the man Mal would never go into his personal stock period. The basement was simply something that all the ingredients had to come out of right. He did not realized nor hear the footsteps of anyone leaving the classroom or coming into it and coming down the trap. He looked up from reading a lable on an ingredient and looked towards the sound of the voice. There was someone down here with him now but that was perfecty fine with him. He might actually have another potions buddy if the other was in here looking at the stuff as well. The boy was dressed in Slytherin robes and was obviously a Hogwarts student. He sent him a huge smile and answered the questions that were posed to him.
"I'm Mal...Mal Rancer...You are? And I just so happened to stumble down her and have been acting i'm sure like that saying "a kid in a candy shop." He finished reading about the ingredient and walked forwards towards the other male in the room. A snake was wrapped around him. "She's a rather beautiful snake." His german accent began to start shinning through as he was excited to be meeting a possible new friends. [/center][/blockquote]

It usually took Shendeth a while to trust people if he ever did, but the more he looked the more the Durmstrang boy seemed like a potential friend, and that was a good thing. Nobody who went to school there and had such an interest in potions could be all that bad. Like a kid in a candy shop was right. He hadn't even noticed Shendeth until he spoke first. But considering the situation that wasn't a bad thing. It would be different to meet somebody who shared his fascination with the subject.
"I see." Shendeth replied with a return grin. This place was better than candy. "I'm Shendeth. Potter." The last word reluctant as usual but this time he didn't let it show. Strangers only notice things you bring to their notice. He didn't move as Mal walked over to him and noticed the snake. "Thank you.. she is." he said in agreement, looking at the dim light reflected in her scales.
"Her name's Morticia." Shendeth hadn't named her; she had come with it from the pet store, but he wouldn't have wanted to change it anyway. He liked it. It suited her. Dark and beautiful, like the character who shared the name. While he smiled hesitantly at the other boy, the serpent on the other hand regarded him with calm disdain. But it wasn't just Mal, she looked at everybody that way. Nobody who wasn't human seemed to hold them in much regard.

Mal wasn't the one to exactly make friends that easily even with all his charms. It wasn't that people didn't like him it was just that they took awhile before he trusted them with the name of friend. This boy on the other hand was beginning to look like someone who might actually get that title before their time was up. Anyone who favored potions over every other class was good in his books and worthy of befriending really. He knew that his term of being a kid in a candy store was probably not right to use but well it was the only one he heard. Who ever said like a kid in an apothecary? He laughed inwardly at his own logic. It was probably stupid and rather illogical as well but he didn't care it wasn't like he was speaking it out loud. He was pulled from his thoughts at the other started to speak. Mal instantly listened.
"Nice to meet you Shendeth. I think I'll just stick with first names if you don't mind." It wasn't that he didn't address some people by their last name but as some of his friends and other people had taught him it might be better to actually use first names and such with other people. Or to properly use their full name but that was just too annoying in his mind. He hated people using his fully name. He also got the feeling by his tone of voice that the other didn't really like his name or something like that. So Mal thought it would just be safe to call him by his first name. There was no nickname he could put to it and he actually didn't want too in the first place.
Me smiled as the other thanked him for his compliment on his snake. Mal wasn't fond of snakes all that much but he didn't dislike them. He found them rather interesting creatures. He was just neutral about how he really felt about them. "Morticia fits her very well." The snake was beautiful and that name really seemed like it fit the snake on more levels then just its beautiful. The snake seemed to be looking at him as if it didn't really like him but Mal didn't take it to heart. He looked back at Shendeth. "So what brings you down here?" Mal had been putting the entire collection in his memory banks so he knew where he's be able to get some ingreidents if he needed them for something that he wanted to do. Plus at some point tonight he'd want to experiment because that was just something that he did. [/blockquote]

Shendeth nodded to what he said about first names. He didn't call people by their last names much, not ever if they were a friend. It probably annoyed those who liked it from time to time but too bad. Unless they insisted upon it, but he didn't like that. "I don't." he replied, glad that this boy thought the same way. He didn't see the need to mention that anyone who insisted upon doing otherwise would be so dead.
He nodded again at Mal's comment on the name of his snake. Shendeth thought the same thing and the serpent herself agreed the most. Snakes don't give each other names but he thought she liked the one she had been given. He looked at her and then his gaze wandered to the items on the shelves until Mal spoke again and asked a question.
He shrugged. "Just looking for Potions stuff." That was the only reason at this time. It was the beginning of the year so time to gather new stuff. "I come here a lot." he admitted. Not all the time, but whenever he wanted to. Most students never did but he didn't pay that fact much attention anymore.

Mal's thoughts drifted from potions to Shendeth and the snake he had. Mal was glad that the other prefered the first name basis as well. He didn't mind be called my his last name but he'd much rather not be. It reminded him too much of his father to whom he wanted no association with at the current moment in time. The thought of his father took him on a slightly different mind path as he waited for the other to answer him. He shook it off not wanting to actually deal with the memories that were not to nice for him. He didn't have Stella to bring him out of the darkness if he started it in the first place. It was best to make it stop rather fast. "Its a rather big place with many ingredients that we don't have at Durmstrang. Least they are not readily available. This seems like just the place for those that enjoy potions." In all honesty Mal was sure that he'd be back here and he might just run into Shendeth again as the other was here often as well.
He gave a rather soft smile for a male. "I was thinking of doing some experimenting care to join me." He wasn't exactly sure what he was going to try to make through his experimentation tonight but he had a good idea from what book he'd be attempting a potion out of. He rather loved doing things odd ways in the first place and maybe the other would like to join him in his potions adventures. Okay so Mal had no one else to enjoy it with at the moment as the other person in his group was too interested in exploring the school to see what was so special about it and see if she could get anything on her father.

Shendeth nodded. It definitely was the perfect place for those interested. Many of the ingredients were ones he'd never found anywhere else. The snake around his shoulders shifted a little in cold boredom, or maybe he could just sense it, but he thought the idea was a good one and didn't yet feel compelled to leave.
"Sure thing. I've done lots of experimenting on my own before, actually. What did you want to try?"
He'd done it before but usually alone, and that could sometimes get boring. Nah, it didn't. But still this could be different. Oftentimes it didn't always come to much and a new person meant new ideas he may not have ever thought of. He only hoped that Mal would live up to his school's Dark reputation and want to try something wicked. Otherwise, well what was the point?
(lol they should totally blow up the place)
