Bright blue hair whipped around her face as she spun in a circle. Thin lips spread wide in a smile and opened to emit a loud laugh. Skye had been taken over by the urge to dance and sing, so here she was, all alone, and spinning in circles. Her green eyes twinkled in mirth as she belted out the lyrics to a muggle song she'd heard while exploring London. "You make me feel, out of my element, like I'm walking on broken glass. Like my world's spinning in slow motion, and you're moving too fast..."
She jumped forward on her toes three times before spinning in the air and landing on her left foot, using the momentum to switch to her right foot and throwing her arms in the air. "Was I right, were you wrong, was I weak, were you strong? Yeah both of us broken, caught in the moment! So we live, so we love, are we hurt, are just yeaah... Cause the planets all aligned, when you looked into my eyes, and just like that... the chemicals react... the chemicals react..."

It was a beautiful day, and therefore Valkyrie had been drawn outside. She liked being outside as opposed to inside the stuffy old stone castle that was their school. At the moment she stood at the edge of the lake with her hands in her pockets, going nowhere but not bothered by that. Everything was quiet until.. a voice reached her from somewhere nearby. Following the sound she came to find that it was made by someone singing.
A girl her age, dancing and singing all by herself. She had blue hair. Valkyrie liked that. There were streaks of blue in her hair as well. Normally she would display scorn for this type of childish behavior. It wasn't something she did very often. However her attempts to frown and then laugh at the girl failed as she found herself laughing with her instead. Fighting a newfound urge to join in, she walked up to her. If she had known the words to the song she probably would have. She waited for the girl, she didn't know her name, to pause or notice her. Surely anyone acting as she was wouldn't be unfriendly. When she got her chance at a pause in the song Valkyrie spoke up.
"Hello. What are you doing?" she giggled.

A loud squeal and solid thump later, Skye found herself on the ground with a curiously sore butt. "Ow..." she whined childishly, rubbing her bottom with a wince. She looked around for the source of her intrusion and found herself looking at Valkyrie, a Ravenclaw student that was in her year. "Oh, hiya Valkyrie!" she chirped, waving wildly. Instead of getting up, she crossed her legs and looked up at her fellow second-year. "As for what I'm doin', I'm just dancing and singing!" A crooked half-grin appeared on her face. "Heh, I'm pretty good, ain't I?"

Valkyrie couldn't help but laugh as she watched Skye fall on her butt, though not in a particularly mean way. After all who wouldn't laugh at that? Laughter was uncontrollable; even when you weren't someone who acted cheerful a lot, which was true in some ways and definitely not in others for her, it just came out sometimes. When she managed to stop she nodded to the other girl. Dancing and singing were fun though she didn't really let loose herself too often. At least she could sometimes act like this more.
That the other girl was just dancing and singing was obvious but not necessarily a bad thing. It was good to the other twelve-year-old. When Valkyrie saw that her Gryffindor classmate wasn't getting up she sat down softly on the grass beside her. "Yeah, you are." Valkyrie didn't have much of an opinion on it, but she was sure that she had heard worse before. She grinned back. They were in different Houses but she liked Skye. Already the mood was lifting and it had been pretty high to begin with.

"Ha!" Skye laughed victoriously with a victory sign. "That's one person that agrees with me, at least! Take that, Rowan! I don't sound like a banshee-cat mix being shredded by a cheese-grater!" A few moments of awkward silence and Skye burst out laughing, falling back onto her back and pillowing her head with her arms. "Eh, sorry 'bout that. Rowan and I get into so many arguments we don't even need each other around to have arguments."
She frowned childishly before looking over at Valkyrie and blinking. "Is it sad that, even in my head, I lose half of the arguments that I have with myself?"

After Skye's victorious shout, Valkyrie laughed with her. She was funny. Rowan was Skye's twin, she remembered from having classes with them. They were always saying things like that to each other. Valkyrie nodded. She knew what the girl meant from watching them. If only she had someone that close. But she didn't. Her brother was alright but he was old and didn't go to Hogwarts.
At the question she tilted her head and thought about it. "No, it's not weird. You can't be better than yourself, so it's got to be even." Then she snickered at how silly that sounded. It wasn't really possible to win or lose and argument with yourself, was it? Because the other side was still.. you. So you did both and neither at the same time.

Skye puffed out her cheeks in thought and rolled onto her stomach, pressing her face against her arm and looking at Valkyrie with one green eye. "But isn't that the point of classes and practices and junk? To make you better than you were before. It's like breaking the highest score in a game of quidditch. So, in a way, you can be better than yourself." She grinned. "So ha, I win!" She blew a wet raspberry to the other girl and laughed.

Valkyrie snickered. "Pfft." There had to be a catch. "Yeah, but that's yourself in the past. Since you're always changing you're not the same person anymore. Can you beat yourself as you are in this exact moment? No, because when you do it'll be in the future." Well that made absolutely no sense at all. Haha. But there had to be some reason she was a Ravenclaw. "And if you're always making yourself better then you can't truly beat yourself, because otherwise you wouldn't have to." You'd just have won. Which you couldn't because yourself argued back and kept up just like Valkyrie was doing with Skye. Wait, what?

Skye thought on this for a second before whining and hiding her head again. "This topic hurts my head... Can we switch to a more simple subject, like astro-physics?" She giggled at her own joke, no matter how corny it was, before sitting up again and looking at Valkyrie. "What were you doing out here anyway? I already said that I was singing and dancing, but you never told me why you were walking by randomly."

Heh. Astro-physics. Valkyrie knew what that was; her father was a Muggle scientist, so they could have actually attempted to talk about that if Skye wasn't just joking. Of course most of it just went right over her head and made little sense. But she liked listening to him anyway. Though Skye's second question was the only one meant to be answered, and the answer to that one was much simpler. Hmm. Valkyrie thought about it. "I was just walking randomly. No reason at all." If there was a reason then it wouldn't be random, but random was pretty much the truth. She was there just to be outside, nothing else to do and no destination to her walking. Reasons such as running into Skye came without plans.

Skye snorted and threw her arms behind her head, rolling her eyes. "I don't believe a word of it." she retorted. "You're a Ravenclaw. I've only been here for 2 years, but the Ravenclaws I've all spoken to do absolutely nothing without a reason. I try to avoid stereotyping people, especially by their houses, but I'm not mature enough to think otherwise."

"You can't have talked to all of them then." she countered with a grin. Valkyrie didn't care about the Houses too much; some of the stereotypes she followed and some she didn't. Maybe a lot of her housemates always did things for a reason but not even any of them could have a reason for everything. Now was just one of those rare times when one didn't. Normally she didn't do things for no reason. But even so there were a few Ravenclaws that did. "It's not the first time one has." she giggled, thinking of a girl in the year above theirs, what was her name, Loony Lovegood. Now that was a Ravenclaw who never did anything for any sensible reason. She did nothing a lot too. Ha. Valkyrie certainly wasn't like that but she wasn't the busiest or nerdiest of them either.

Skye shrugged, suddenly not all that caring about the current topic. Curse her short attention span! "I'm bored now." she said promptly. Picking up her head, she extended her arm to poke Valkyrie in the side. "Valkyrie, entertain me before I decide to jump up and start singing a loud, annoying, and obnoxious song." She was already debating which song to sing to annoy her new friend. Perhaps the Song that Never Ends? Or I Know a Song that gets on Everybody's nerves.

Apparently someone got bored just as easily as they were entertained. Valkyrie was not like that so much, but then the conversation had fallen slightly in terms of how interesting it was. She had told Skye that she was an alright singer just a few minutes ago but certainly did not want to be annoyed by it! Something told her that the Gryffindor would prove to be very good at that if she tried. But how to sufficiently entertain her now instead of the other way around, that was the question.
"Let's play a game then, if you want." They needed something to do, but didn't need to just stay here. Skye could help decide what to play. Maybe she had good ideas that Val didn't, she seemed pretty creative after all. Hm.. casting her eyes around, the second year eventually latched them onto not a place to go but the lake mud a little ways off from the patch of grass she was sitting on.
Reaching out, she scooped up a handful of the mud and held it up threateningly. The thick, dark muck oozed down between her fingers. "If you do sing something obnoxious I will throw this in your face." Her voice was all serious, though she couldn't keep the mischief out of her eyes. She probably would throw it in a second regardless of what Skye said. A mud fight should be entertaining enough.
