Late nights (open)

Chloe lay awake in her bed. She couldn't sleep she hardly ever slept at night in the first place. She watched her fellow dorm mates toss and turn in their sleep. There was one bed empty as one of their dorm mates happened to be out past curfew it would seem. She rolled out of bed waking a small little grey kitten who was sleeping right above her head. The kitten stretched and sat looking expectantly at its owner. Chloe picked up it up and then placed him on the floor next to her feet. He rubbed against her legs as she finally stood up to take a walk down to the common room. There didn't seem to be anyone down there as she looked around. However it didn't take her long to stop a curled up student on the couch. She shook her head and walked by heading out of the common.

She make her way up towards the tower being sure not to attract any attention to herself. It wasn't like she did anyways. Lucifer the little grey kitten followed her making no noise at all either. They entered the owlery to a flutter of wings. It had taken about two weeks for the brids to realize that the two meant them no harm. Chloe sat down under the owlery window and looked up towards the light while absentmindedly betting a Lucifer who happened to jump up on her lap. Like owner like animal some would say. These two make a rather odd and similar pair. The grey ball of fur curled up and purred softly as Chloe closed her eyes and tried to at least calm her body down.

Glenn sat on his bed he spent the sleepless night tossing balled up paper at his dormmate and laughing as the kid would cry stop it mommy before rolling over. It was a boring night and it was about time he toyed with the idea of sneaking out and causing trouble, yes Glenn caused trouble but nothing really bad it was only bad when he was teamed up with his sister Ginny. He really needed to talk to her later on he had a few ideas he wanted to pass by her on stuff they could do before the trials. He wanted to paint the boat that the Drumstang came in the colors of hogwarts just to see their reaction.

Deciding to get up and take a walk he figured it might help him get tired. He doubted it would help be he wasn't going to sit up all night watching the others sleeping that was just to weird even for him. Jumping down the stairs he walked into the quiet common room maybe being up while everyone was out cold wasn't a bad thing it was quiet and Glenn loved the quiet sitting on the cough he started to think about where he could go turning he noticed the girl sleeping on the other couch; how nice was it to be able to sleep. Jumping up he dropped a book on the table and smirked as the girl jumped up "go to bed before you get in trouble" he told her as he turned and watched out.

Making his way through the house he walked until he was in the towers the owls sounded upset which was weird for them to be that way at night so that meant someone was up there he walked up the stairs and opened the door. "Hello? Anyone help there?" he asked closing the door quietly not to upset the birds. Turning he looked up and smiled "Chloe" he said happily "You can't sleep too?"

Chloe was calm for the most part now. She still couldn't sleep but that didn't matter. Lucifer was curled up on her lap asleep evidently. Least it looked that was as she opened her eyes and looked down at the tiny grey kitten who didn't leave her alone for very long to say the least. She was rather glad to have a companion like that however. She like the grey little ashy ball of fluff. Rather she loved the little kitten. She let him sleep on her lap as she took a look at an owl who had fluttered down from its perch to sit on her shoulder. It was the owl that had found her on the streets before Dumbledore had come to find her. She gave the owl a little pat on the head before it flew off as the door opened again.

She took a look to see who was coming in but through the mess of feathers she couldn't tell. They were again not calm like they had been a few moments ago after the initial shock of her coming through the door with Lucifer who wouldn't hurt an owl because he knew better. Some of those owls were big enough to pick him up and take him away and he wouldn't allow that to happen. It took moments for Chloe to figure out that the other person in the Owlery was someone she knew. She gave a half smile to Glenn Weasley as he said her name and asked if she couldn't sleep too. She shook her head in reply to not being able to sleep. Most everyone in Hufflepuff knew that the fourth year girl didn't speak. How she got along in classes was beyond even some of the Ravenclaws who were rather smart she'd give them that. She gave a nod of hello but of course didn't say anything.

Glenn had never cared that Chloe didn't talk in fact he spent most his time with her. It was peaceful and he felt that they got along well. Glenn will never admit that he secretly liked her. Shaking his head he walked in and over to her and climbed up to sit next to her. He liked the quiet and the sense that he just sit here with her. Most the kids made fun of Chloe about the whole no speaking thing but he always made sure to kick their butts for it he really didn't like it when others picked on her. He smiled to her and nodded. Spotting her kitten he fished threw his pockets pulling out a cat treat.

Tossing the treat towards the kitten he leaned back against the wall he wasn't sure what to say and he hoped that he was not intruding anything. "Classes really sucked today two first years were fighting in class again." he said without looking at her. Glenn really didn't want to talk her ear off or anything it was the last thing he wanted to do. Looking up into the ceiling he looked for his owl wondering if she was awake when he spotted her at the top he laughed "That bird is a traitor" he said with a laugh. Looking back to Chloe he wondered if she was alright. "How are you doing? I mean really doing? Are you well are you alright?" he asked not really sure how to come out and ask.

Chloe had just come to this school this year as Dumbledore had finally caught up with her. This was probably the longest she had stayed in any one place for awhile now. At that wasn't long at all. School had only started now nearly a month ago. They were a week shy or so of making it one month that she had stayed somewhere. No one but Glenn seemed to understand her and most everyone else made fun of her for not talking and then got extremely weired it out when words appeared in their heads or she wrote them with out her wand in the air. Then there were the few that could sign that seemed to be alright with her. Glenn really was the only one that stood up for her and cared it seemed. She was sure that Glenn's twin sister didn't mind her either but that girl Chloe could not quite figure out. She liked that Glenn didn't mind her not talking. So in a sense for the first time in awhile she was getting along with someone rather well but she was also afraid of it. She didn't want Glenn or Ginny to get hurt or anything like that.

Lucifer sniffed the air as if he knew that Glenn was there and opened his arms stretching before pouncing on the cat treat Glenn has tossed to him and happily played with it before he ate it. Chloe shook her head and signed. "He seems to like playing with his food." A smile spread across her face as Glenn complained about the first year fighting. She had noticed that some of the younger kids couldn't keep from fighting though she couldn't say that the older kids were setting a very good example for them either. She listened to his questions and then actually got to thinking about them.

She of course signed everything she said as she as sure that Glenn would figure it out anyways. He had after all spent most of his time with her. "I'm alright. I'm confused and admittedly a bit scared about being here. I don't fit in. I don't even know why I'm here but the teachers say I'm getting along fine." She shrugged her shoulders as Lucifer in a pouncing mood pounced onto Glenn's lap.

Glenn watched the kitten and smiled as he looked at Chloe he always had to remind himself to look at the girl so he could see the signs she was doing. I was a known fact that Glenn himself is not able to sign but he could understand it and Chloe could understand him talking so it work. He laughed at what she said about the kitten as he rested his hand on the kitten in his lap. He was extremely happy that Chloe was here now when he first saw her he knew he was going to be her friend and she was not going to be like the others that only like him because they were friends with Ginny. As he sat there thoughts ran through his mind about everything that had happened to him. Like the point in his first year where he freaked out on everyone when Ginny started to act different and then disappeared into the chamber. If it wasn't for Fred and George Glenn would have lost it.

Neville refused to let Glenn go with him so in a way Glenn hated Neville but couldn't say anything because he knows how Ginny feels. Looking back at Chloe he smiled he had to start thinking about other things he didn't want to worry anyone about the feelings he had. He watched her sign and took it all in connecting the words to the sign and smiled again. For some odd reason Glenn smiled a lot around Chloe. “You will be okay, I am here for you and you are the only fourth year that can do wandless magic you are doing great.” He thought about the don't fit in comment well maybe that was why they got along because he didn't feel like he belonged her either. “Don't be scared I won't let anything happen to you I promise and I don't fit in here as well but that makes us different and special so its not a bad thing that we don't fit in."

Chloe watched Lucifer curl up on Glenn's lap. Lucifer liked no one else but Ginny like that. He tended to stay with her and would hiss if he didn't like the person. He had a rather odd way of sitting on top of her head perfectly balanced as well. He was a small kitten so that it really didn't hurt to have him up there. She shook her head as Lucifer fell asleep purring him Glenn's lap. Chloe had been glad that both Ginny and Glenn could understand her signs. It met that she didn't have to go and do any of the other strange manners in which she talked to people. She'd taken up to carrying a not pad with her so that she wouldn't continuously freak people out. Many thought she was also deaf because she didn't talk and such. They didn't realize at times that people could be mute and hear perfectly well. She was however neither mute nor deaf. She could speak but she had not done so in many years now. Not sense her dad had died when she was really little. She didn't talk that much when she was little either.

She had been rather happy when she first met Glenn. He was a very kind boy even if others didn't see it. His sister was the same a very nice girl though she was sure form the stories she'd heard of their first year was still a little messed up from the incident. However Ginny much like her did not like to think about nor admit to the weaknesses that they had. However Glenn had become her best friend. He really was the only one that would seek her out and it was rather touching. She however was afraid that she'd hurt him in some way. She didn't always have control over her powers and she feared hurting him. She also like the fact that Glenn seemed to always be smiling around her. It made her feel rather happy about that.

"What's wandless magic?" She signed yet again. She was a bit behind in learning a few things. She knew that there was a think such as silent magic but she had not read everything on that or wandless magic. She'd seen the term but had not read about it. She was confused as to how she could be here. There was a wand that she had but she didn't generally use it unless she had too. She was glad that Glenn was there to make everything okay. She gave him a slightly sad smile when he said he didn't fit in either. They seemed to be two peas in a very good pod. "You know Lucifer really likes you." She pointed to her cat he was now sprawled out over Glenn's legs.
