Peeves was bored today. There was no one to mess with. As a matter of fact he hadn't found any unsuspecting Beauxbatons or Drumstrang student to test things on. Actually he loved having them here because he could do some of his old tricks as opposed to finding something new to do to those that knew him all to well. The Ravenclaws had gotten boring to throw books at like he usually did. The were all far to busy doing other things then school it seemed at the moment. There were rumors upon rumors going around the school as it was and it was hard for even the poltergeist to keep up with. That wasn't exactly like him because he loved having black mail material on all of them.
He'd made the mistake last week of scaring a Beauxbatons girl that just so happened to be the ickle little daughter of one little Evans. That had been a mistake but he's still scare that girl just to see her reactions now. After all the little one seemed to be spooked by just about anything. It was someone he didn't know much about and he hadn't stuck around after Lily has made him run off. He was going to get her back for shooting a stone in his nose.
So now here he was floating around the third floor forbidden corridor trying to catch unsuspecting students in the forbidden hall. It was always fun to try to get them into trouble and then cause racus elsewhere so they didn't get into trouble. Least if they were some of his pranksters or Nellie Diggory. He was bored and hoping for someone to come unbore him very soon. [/blockquote]

For three years this corridor had been deemed 'forbidden.' Why? What was so important about it? Tristan had used it as a short-cut occasionally to get from class to class, but he had never noticed anything seriously out of the ordinary. No one would tell him the reason either because he had asked. He was curious and he always had been, but for three years he never acted on his impulse to just investigate the hallway. He had been denying a part of his personality as a result and now that he was in his final year at Hogwarts this was his last chance to find out what exactly was so 'forbidden.'
Before heading down the corridor, Tristan looked around. He didn't see anyone. No teachers or students and not even one of the resident ghosts so he quickly slipped away while he had the chance. There was nothing really extraordinary about the corridor as he explored the relatively small area; compared to the rest of the school this place was rather tame... Until he came across Peeves anyway.
"So what's so fascinating about this corridor, hm? Do you know?" Tristan tilted his head somewhat at his own question and could only hope that he would get a logical response rather than a water balloon to the face or what have you...

Peeves continued his aimless floating about. It wasn't like anyone really came down this corridor much. Many who had come done realized it wasn't really all that special. In all honesty Peeves was not sure why the others kept it forbidden. It didn't matter to him but he didn't see the use of it anymore. Then again it might be because of the amount of magic and such down here that could really mess with a persons mind. The trace of magic still lingered and with Voldemort's even partial energy in the corridor it could very well be dangerous still. It was one of those reason why no one ever fixed Mrytle's bathroom either. Peeves figured there was a method to any of the maddness that was in this school. After all he had seen many things and had more stories to tell then some of the other ghosts within the school. That was of course of the school anyways. He didn't know anything of the outside world like many of them did. He came with the school and that was that.
He spun around to see a seventh year staring at him. If there was one thing he really didn't like seeing it was the seventh years. They knew all of his pranks and such so he had a hard time freaking most of them out. Seven years got you rather used to the poltergeists antics anyways. He gave a sigh but the question that was asked of him made a smirk come across the poltergeist's face in the first place. He looked Mr. Bright up and down and floated around him assessing whether to throw a book at his head or to actually tell him why this floor was still forbidden even though the wasn't exactly sure as to why himself and he knew this school better then anyone else so his assumptions about it were most of the time true.
"An ickle little Seventh year hasn't figure that out yet. Little Brighty must not be using his brains very well." Peeves couldn't pass up the opprotunity to taunt just a little bit even though he would tell the boy sooner or later what was so imporant about this hall that looked so tame compared to the rest of the school. Nothing here is ever what it seems to be. "Come on little Brighty guess. Guess three times then old Peeves will tell you." [/blockquote]

"Aw, come on, Peeves. There could be a thousand reasons. Can't you just tell me?"
Tristan didn't like guessing games, but he knew that if he didn't oblige the poltergeist then he would probably never get an answer. He pursed his lips for a moment as he tried to think. Let's see... Three years ago the Boy-Who-Lived had arrived at Hogwarts for the first time along with so many other students. Maybe it had something to do with that?
"What about the Boy-Who-Lived? That Longbottom boy... Does he have anything to do with this corridor being forbidden?"
He knew he was answering with yet another question, but Tristan couldn't help it. He gave a frustrated sigh as he sent a hand through his somewhat curly black hair. Let's see... Three years ago he had been fifteen and just starting his fourth year. He remembered that their Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher had been a stuttering man who always wore a turban that smelt of garlic. Nah, it probably didn't have anything to do with that. He still had to make two more guesses though and he was completely out of ideas.
"Then there was that Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor... What was his name? Squirrel? No... No, that wasn't it... Something along those lines anyway..." He wasn't very good with names; it came from dating far too many girls to keep up with it all. "He was a pretty hopeless teacher, wasn't he? Haha. But there was something... I dunno... 'off' about him, I guess."
The seventh year Gryffindor looked around the corridor. There were no signs or hints that he could find. It was pretty ordinary as a matter of fact.
"I dunno, Peeves. It's not like Myrtle's bathroom where they banned that loo because she died there and Voldemort had something to do with it...." He gave another sigh before he shook his head. "Can't you just tell me already?"

Peeves knew the other would oblige him if he wanted any information what so ever about the surround area. Peeves knew all about it but he still had assumptions about things that were not exactly told to him. He also knew that Mr. Bright hated guessing games. Still the poltergeist was getting amusement out of this and that was what he wanted. The first question answer was right on track actually so Peeves gave a littl nod to it. He didn't care that the answer was another question. He was far to entertained with what the seventh year would say to get him to open up. He watched Tristan closely as the boy continued to think. Peeves almost thought her could see the wheels turning in the boys mind. He let out a little giggle and then listened to the second and third explanation that came from the boy. He was pretty much hitting the targets of why the hall was forbidden or rather had been forbidden. The process of why it was still forbidden was a completely different story.
"Mr. Bright is right no track with it having to do with pofessory Squirrelly, Longbottom, and he who shall not be named." Peeves was fine with calling the dark lord by his name as he had known the dark lord when he was in school. However he just enjoyed say he who shall not be named. So he got to thinking of exactly how to answer Mr. Brights question as to why it was still a forbidden corridor. Peeves would sure it would stay that way for many years to come because others would not want to take that out of the tradition of rules so long as Dumbledore lived that was. He shrugged that one off and opened his mouth to tell the ickle little seventh year what was up with the hall and why it was still forbidden.
Mr. Bright the hall is still forbidden because of the magic that was used within one of the rooms. The magic imprint left behind could really mess with someone elses magic. There is dark magic as well as the light that mix within this hall. There was also a dangerous creature in this hall but he has been moved away. But still the all stays forbidden because of the energy left behind from the battles that happened within the walls of the corridor." That was the most logical explanation and a very different side of Peeves that Tristan was seeing at the current moment. [/blockquote]

"So in other words it does have something to do with Voldemort."
Tristan felt immensely proud of himself for coming to the right conclusion. Maybe he wasn't so bad at guessing games after all... He looked around the corridor with more interest than before, trying to see if he could find any taint of the Dark Magic Peeves spoke of. The explanation made sense, but it had been three years since Longbottom had come to school so perhaps whatever had been left behind was already gone. It was possible that the school had already absorbed it; Hogwarts had that tendency...
"You're being pretty helpful for once. In fact, I can't ever recall you being all that smart... No offense." Tristan ducked his head for a moment. A light chuckle escaped his lips. He was seriously asking for a face full of dung bomb. "Well I don't feel any of this 'energy.' I mean, you would think that my Magic would react somehow..."
As if to prove his point, the teen drew out his wand and gave it an experimental swish, not really focusing on a certain kind of spell or charm; he just wanted to see what would happen. The response he got was less than satisfactory though.
"See? There's no point in keeping this corridor forbidden. It's the perfect shortcut to a few of the classes, but now it's just a round-about way to go without being allowed to go through here." He gestured expressively.

Peeves was not sure why he was being so nice. After all her was usually throwing things at people or causing them to scream out in terror. Pulling pranks and causing general discord was what the poltergeist was famous for. Today however he didn't want people running from him apparently out of the sheer boredom that he was feeling. So nice to the seventh year Mr. Bright he would stay. Something that only the pranksters or Albus Dumbeldore got out of him. He respected Dumbledore far more than he has respected any of the other headmasters before him. They were tell you that the poltergeist was a pain in the rear but they'd never expell him from the castle because he was part of the castle. He stayed away from the Bloody Baron cause the Slytherin house ghost scared the pants off of him. It was better to listen to that which you feared at least in his mind. He'd never feared the dark lord just thought him to be another annoying kid when he was in school and now an even more annoying half dead guy.
He was pulled out of his thoughts by Tristan making a comment. "Yes Yes it has to do with Moldy Voldy." He liked the fact that Mr. Bright had no problem saying the man's name. He wondered if anyone but Neville knew the true name of the dark lord. They one thing that would piss the dark lord off royally. It would probably a good idea not to tell people such things. Even Peeves had a feeling that the dark lord would rise again. He was pulled out of his thoughts again by Tristan saying something about him being nice and being smart. He gave a hurt look when the boy called him not smart but soon after said no offense. Mr. Bright was right with the fact that Peeves never usually showed he could be anything of the sort but he was. "One would assume that. You might want to ask the others who actually use the hall. It might not just be magical reactions." In all honesty even through his own logic Peeves knew that Hogwarts had absored the magic and the third floor corridor really didn't need to be forbidden unless of course there was something new that Peeves had not learned about yet.
Peeves let out a chuckle that seemed rather eerie as Mr. Bright waved his hands about clearly upset. "Headmaster has his reasons but that hasn't stopped many students from entering and hanging around this corridor now has it Mr. Brighty." [/blockquote]
