Well i like that fact that Lucius is strict with them. It makes them angry and it makes them grow and is nice contrast to how Cissy is being played at the moment. I view Amy as a daddy's girl but she respects her mother above all else. She's the one likely to come home at the drop of a hat whether she likes to or not as a dutiful daughter. But as you can see she's fourteen and sometimes other things weigh on her mind other then family obligation. She came like a good girl but that does not mean she will be good when she is there type of deal thing.
You will see what i think of Lucius trying to hit Amaranta. I want it a memory in her mind that he'll do it but all the failed times are sending her mixed signals and she wants it to stop as it drives her completely batty. She's very protective of her brother and if Draco is upset even if she is over happily she will start to feel the effects of his sourness. Anyways that's my thoughts on the whole thing.

Yeah. I liked it. Lucius is scared of hitting them because he wants them to respect him, not fear him in the way he feared his father. But he is only confusing them by almost hitting him.
I think Lucius is expecting too much from them, they are only young and he wants family to be their greatest priority. He also fears their hatred of him, but doesn't know how to deal with the fact he cares for them.
They can be such a messed up family.
