Nellie lay in her bed in her dorm staring at the ceiling. Draco had told her that he couldn't go on their date because he had been called home. Well more it was like Amaranta told her that she had to drag him home. They both didn't really want to go but they didn't really have a choice and she knew that. So her hopes of a first date with Draco went out the window and she was left with nothing to do for the weekend. She rolled out of bed and put on her night robe and walked down into the common room. The fire was lit and she could see the dim glow of it as she came to the top of the stairs before she descended. She made her way down the stairs and to the couch.
She sat down on the couch and curled up. She was tired but she couldn't sleep. She looked into the fire and felt herself relax a bit. It was not uncommon for someone to find the third year passed out on the couch. However, one always had to make sure she hadn't actually blacked out. That would be a bad thing. Her brother was out patrolling she was sure and he'd come in and take her back up to her bed if he found her sleeping on the couch. She kept staring into the fire the flames dance as if to amuse her just a little bit. [/blockquote]

The problem with seventh year was the huge importance of the exams at the end. The school year had barely gotten started, and already the work was harder and more extensive than it would seem possible. Enough to have to do even on weekend nights when there was nothing better. It was like fifth year all over again, only worse. Mikah sat at a table in the far corner of the common room, away from the fireplace and the chattering younger students, most of which were heading off to bed, staring at a hopelessly long essay. One more sentence at a time.. and then another.. and..
The sound of a dormitory door being opened and closed startled him back to consciousness. Slowly opening his eyes, Mikah found his face pressed up against the table, the common room empty and much darker, the fire dying so that the place where he was was completely in shadow. Great. After a moment he pushed himself up wearily and put his homework back in his school bag. There was no point in finishing it now, and in any case he really didn't want to. Getting up and stretching, he looked around and eventually spotted the girl on the couch who must have been the one that came in.
It was Nellie Diggory. Mikah knew who she was because she was his friend Cedric Diggory's little sister. Stifling a yawn he walked over and plunked down on the opposite end of the couch. "Hey, Nellie. How are you?"

Nellie was bored and she wasn't tired. Least she wasn't tired anymore. It might have been the fact that she'd had a black out recently and that she just didn't feel good at the moment. She wished Draco was around or her brother so she could curl up in their arms and fall asleep or do something. They were soothing to her and if she didn't feel well they were usually there to help her feel better. She looked was trying to judge the time to figure out if she needed to take her medication again. She really hated to be taking so much medication. She'd prefer not too but with what she had she had no choice. There was no way to get better without taking what she was supposed too.
Upon coming down to the common room she had not noticed anyone else was there due to the darkness. She jumped almost sky high when Mikah said hello to her. "You scared me Mikah." Her voice came out in a low happy hush. She was glad that at least someone else was up and she could take to them. She knew Mikah through her brother and through the fact that they lived close enough to play with him and Luna when they were kids. Cedric and Mikah had been friends for a long time now. "I've felt better but I'm alright." That was all she was going to say. She looked back at the fire and then back at Mikah. She wondered what she was going to do without him and Cedric next year. She wouldn't have them as security blankets in the house any more.
She shrugged mentally to herself. "Mikah what are you doing down her so late. I though you'd be asleep by now." [/blockquote]

Mikah hadn't meant to startle her, but now that he was awake he wasn't as tired as before either. "Sorry." he replied to the younger girl, smiling at her. He nodded at her response to the question but didn't ask. What she said was something he understood. He wondered what she was doing down here as well, thinking she was the one who should be asleep by now. "The same to you." he said and shrugged.
"I was... homework." he grimaced. "I fell asleep doing it." he admitted honestly.
She should enjoy the earlier years while she could. Mikah wished he were still in third year sometimes, and not just because of the work. Next year he'd be out of Hogwarts without ever doing anything important, and he still had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. Here everything was safe and laid out for them, being an adult was different. He supposed he should just enjoy this last year while he could. Of course there were many good things about finally growing up.. but.. he sighed. These thoughts weren't ones he usually ever admitted to anyone.
"How late is it, do you know?" He didn't know how long he had dozed off for, it could have been just enough for the common room to empty or almost morning. Mikah wasn't too bothered either way but it couldn't hurt to know if she did. If not no big deal. He looked briefly around the deserted room he'd miss and at the embers slowly dying in the low fireplace before looking back at Nellie.

Nellie was usually easily caught off guard by people. She had the tendency to get too far into what she was doing to actually realize that other people existed around her. Most of her brother's friends knew that much as well. Nellie shook her head when Mikah said sorry to her. There was no need to apologize she shoud have been more alert in the first place. She as happy that her brother friend didn't question her on the not feeling well part. Cedric's close friends knew what the issue was even if she didn't tell them. Cedric was always in a sense making sure she was okay so they knew something was wrong. She let out a soft giggle as he in less words asked her about being up this late. She hadn't fallen asleep and so here she was that was pretty much her issue. She snapped out of her thoughts once her finally stated what he was doing. Seventh years seemed to have so much homework. She'd caught her brother passed out on his homework a few nights back as well. "They give you so much homework. Though I'd assume its because you have to be ready to take the NEWTs at the end of the year." She knew that OWL's drove the fifth years crazy as well. She was glad she was a third year and didn't really have to worry about the amount of stress of those classes.
Part of her wished that she didn't take special classes at times too. In some of her classes she was right up there with the fourth years but she was not put into that years classes. She was given a bit of extra work so that she wouldn't get bored in her own classes. Her Ravenclaw features came out in that but that didn't mean to say that she should have been sorted into that house at all. She was pure and simple a Hufflepuff and proud of it. She'd miss her brother and some of his friends next year. She'd be with out them all by the time she got to her fifth year anyways. She was pulled again out of her thoughts by Mikah voice asking her a question. She thought about it for a second before she actually opened up her mouth to speak. "I would say that its around three in the morning. Lights out was a long time ago." That was the closest she could pinpoint it. She'd been laying in her dorm since lights out and had finally just come out because she knew it was early morning really. Or rather closer to morning then to night. Her brother was probably sleeping which would make sense for the time kinda. [/blockquote]

Mikah nodded at her comment. Nellie was right in her assumptions. At times it seemed rather pointless really, as the year had only recently started and the exams weren't until the end. But that was just how school was at this time. Somehow he'd survived fifth year, so hopefully this one would go the same without much problems. He wasn't a Ravenclaw like his sister nor the very top of the class but that didn't mean he wasn't smart. Mikah wasn't a bad student and generally did alright. "Yeah." he sighed.
Then there was silence until Nellie answered his question about the time. Three in the morning, that was alright there was plenty of time. "Oh, okay." he looked down into the fire. Like Luna he had the ability to space out quite nicely when he wanted to. Normally he liked to talk and laugh a lot. At this moment though he had little else to say, and so was content for the time being to wait and let Nellie say something if she wanted to.

Nellie wished that she was normal in all possible lights. She wouldn't be afraid to go to sleep then. If it wasn' fear of black outs it was fear of having a nightmare that came true. No one but her family members and a few of Cedric's friends knew she was a seer. She kept that well hidden because well it could very easily be used against her and gain her attention she could do without. She had enough to worry about. However, she envied some of the others because they could sleep so soundly and didn't have to worry about the things she did. Of course she's been living with it for all her life so she'd find some way to get over it all and get on a regular sleeping pattern. She was pulled out of her thoughts by Mikah's yea and okay. It wasn't like the Hufflepuff's were every that talkative. Silence fell over the two.
Nellie curled tighter into her ball and watched as the flames continued to die down in the fire place. A few seconds later she inched closer to Mikah until she was leaning against him. She was tired and wanted to sleep but she was still afraid of doing so. She curled up tighter and closer to Mikah. She figured Luna did this to him as well when they were at home maybe. He was spacing out anyways so she hoped he didn't mind. She dozed off into a restless type of sleep. She kept waking up and shaking every so often. Then she suddenly went still for a long time before shuddering almost violently.

Mikah felt Nellie curl up against him but didn't really mind. She would have to move eventually since he did want to go to bed at some point but for now it was okay. He didn't say anything. The younger girl was quick to drift into light sleep, and sinking into the couch in the semi-darkness this late at night it was hard to. However he was kept from fully doing so by her shaking.
Mikah knew about her health problems and her gift, though neither was talked about much. At her last, more violent shoulder he tore his getting tired gaze away from whatever space he had been staring into to glance down at her. He wondered if she was having a nightmare. If that was the case maybe he should wake her up, but it seemed as if she was half awake already. Mikah didn't have nightmares or illnesses and certainly wasn't a seer, so he didn't know.
"Nellie? Are you okay?" he asked softly so that hopefully she could only hear if she was really awake.

Nellie figured she's have to move eventually. After all Mikah was probably tired and wanted to go to bed at some point as well. Still she couldn't help but sorta fall sleep on him. She wasn't sure how long she'd be able to stay asleep for she knew she was shaking and that the dream she was having was not pleasant at all. She woke with a start but didn't say anything and stopped moving before Mikah asked her if she was okay. She moved away from him to a sitting position and curled up. "Yea I'm alright. Just a bad dream is all." She let out a sigh and curled up tighter. It looked like she wasn't going to get any sleep tonight. It was probably inching ever so close to the time when they'd all have to get up for class. She knew her brother would be worried that she didn't sleep for very long but she hoped she wouldn't get the lecture that she sometimes got out of his cocern. Of course that always ended when she was about to cry because he was upset with her.
She looked back up at Mikah. "I'm sorry about that. I didn't realize how late it was getting. You should probably get some sleep." She gave a shy smile that was barely seen as the last flames of the fire died away. It was a rather sad darkness that they were plunged into now. Nellie knew that sleep would evade her for now and that it was time for the other to go to bed. She'd half been lying when she said she was alright. She let out a cough but was surprised to find it was just a cough and no blood or mucus came with it. She leaned more into the couch on the opposite side of Mikah to try and just calm herself so that she could be a bit rested and not be completely tired when she went off to class the next more. Not that her tiredness ever did anything to mess with her grades.

Mikah nodded at Nellie's answer. So he had guessed right. Whether or not she was actually alright he didn't know, knowing her it was probably the opposite, but he didn't question her further about that. It was only a question of concern; her answer was fine with him. Usually people didn't like to talk about the details of their problems. It wasn't as if questions could help people get better. He looked over at her as she moved away. It was a mark of how late it was when the fire died.
"It's alright." he said to her apology and returned her smile. Nellie was such a sweet girl, it was too bad she had to go through what she did, he thought as he noticed her cough. When it came to getting to sleep she was probably right. He usually didn't have any trouble doing so. It would be best for Nellie if she got some sleep too, but she must know that already, so if she couldn't there was no point telling her to. Mikah probably wouldn't sleep much either if it was disturbed by bad dreams. He was used to staying up later but that was just because.
"Yeah, I guess I should." he agreed, looking over at Nellie and stifling a yawn.

Nellie wasn't one to tell anyone how she felt unless it was her brother or she was being pressured into it. She loved the fact that Mikah let it go at the fact that she was just having a bad dream and that was all. Nellie did want to sleep but she usually only slept well if Cedric was holding her and whispering that all would be okay. It was the only way she got back to sleep after bad dreams and such. She was sure however that he was asleep and she wasn't going to disturb him. He usually got up early anyways and if he found her down here still awake he would make her sleep for at least an hour before they went off to breakfast and to start the day. That was if he saw her at all cause sometimes she was already out of the common and sitting at the table trying to eat something to get just a little energy before going to class that morning.
She was pulled out of her thought process by Mikah's voice telling her it was alright and that he guessed he should go to sleep. She let out a soft giggle as she noticed him stifling a yawn. It looked funny to say the least but she wasn't going to say that out loud. She looked back now at the dead fireplace and debated about going up to her own dorm again and laying there to stare at the ceiling until it was time for breakfast or class. She uncurled herself and looked at Mikah. "I'm going to try and go to sleep in the dorm again. Umm...I'll see you in a few hours." She walked back up to the dorm and plopped into bed knowing full well she was not going to sleep this time.
