For what seemed like hours Lily stared at the mirror in front of her. She was hardly aware of her surroundings anymore. The soft echoing of feet just outside the door, and the eager voices of children as they made their way to their dorms or classes. At that moment nothing else mattered. In the mirror she saw herself along with her children as she knew she would. It surprised her to see James standing next to her. He looked happy and healthy. A complete change from when she had seen him in St. Mungo’s just a week ago. A pain radiated through her stomach and chest, as she realized that she had missed that James. The James who could make the best out of every situation, and laugh in the face of anything. When she saw James in the hospital, she hardly recognized him. His features were the same, but instead of looking young and vibrant he looked listless. Nothing she said or did could gage a response out of him.
The tall figure on her other side of her was one she knew well. In both her youth and adulthood. Severus with his black hair, murky eyes and hooked nose stared back at her. She saw that smile on his face. The rare one that most people wouldn’t recognize. Lily smiled, but resisted the urge to reach out and touch what she was seeing. She hadn’t expect to see Severus there. Of course she always had some attachment to him. Perhaps it was a bit more then she was willing to admit at the moment. But she knew the mirror didn’t lie. It could only show the deepest desires of ones heart.
Lily was moved from her thoughts at the sound of her daughters voice. She looked quickly away from the mirror and down at her daughter. Saphira’s face looked pale, and she couldn’t help but feel guilty for taking so much time looking into the mirror. “Come,” Lily said placing her hands on Saphira’s shoulders. “We’ll go see Madam Pomfrey… She’ll fix you right up. She was never one to ask to many questions. It’s probably better in Hogwarts Hospital Wing then in St. Mungo’s.”
