Melinda sat down at the table an d took her potion book out and started studying while she sip on pumpkin juice.
She was supposed be in Charms but she thought Charms was boreding so she decided to chill in the great hall.

There weren't a whole lot of people in the Great Hall when Shendeth walked in, probably because classes were under way. This morning he had decided to just sleep in through breakfast and the first few classes, and eventually wandered up here for something to eat on his own time. He usually did well in school without putting much effort into it, so he didn't see a problem with doing this once in a while. Although he skipped class much more than just once in a while. Whatever. Ignoring the other people in the hall, he walked over to the Slytherin table and sat down on an empty stretch of bench across from a girl he didn't know.
She was from a different year and apparently studying, so he didn't say anything or pay any attention to her. Until his hand slipped on the wet handle of a large pitcher of pumpkin juice, sending it crashing sideways onto the table and spilling its entire contents forward over the wooden surface, onto the girl's lap and all over her book. Oops. Shendeth waited for it to stop dripping somewhat and then took out his wand; with one wave the glass was upright again and most of the pumpkin juice that was on the table was back inside, but the damage had still been done.
"Sorry." he said, but was too careless to really mean it at all.

"Oh, Hi Melinda." There wasn't much else to say. He knew her face from seeing her around the common room and such but hadn't remembered her name. "My name is Shendeth."
It looked like she wanted to get back to studying, and he wasn't going to press on or interrupt her, but he had to add that to make it clear. He tried not to mind this time because she wouldn't have known, but unlike most of the Slytherins he hated being called by his last name. Most people had the sense not to.

Melinda closed her book and looked at Shendeth. "So what do you like to do?" asked Mel as she cauldron up another cup of Pumpkin jaucie in her cup.
She then put her potion book back in her school bag.
"Oh one thing why are you not in calss right now?" asked Melinda as she pick her cup and then to an slip of the jucie.

Shendeth looked back at her for a second before starting to pile a bit of food onto his plate and taking his own cup of pumpkin juice. Truth be told he didn't think he really had any good hobbies or whatever that were worth talking about. He smirked a little at her last question.
"Because going to class is not something I like to do. And I dunno really.. what about you?"
He wasn't completely lazy, he was smart and there were a few classes he liked, but yeah no. Although she at least had been studying before he could be asking her the same thing.

Melinda can tell Shendeth was not an big talker. Melinda smiled.
"Well I didn't fell like going to stupid charms." said Melinda as she saw head of the house coming to her and Shendeth.
"Oh great." said Melinda with an frown.

Shendeth absentmindedly returned her smile, but not by much. "Yeah.." Charms could be stupid. However, his stomach clenched a little when he looked around to see what had caused Melinda's frown.
Being their head of House was only one reason why Severus Snape was one of the last people he wanted to see right now. While he knew it would be best to get over it and make it into the good thing he'd always wanted it to be, for the moment he was still avoiding his secret bio father as doing anything else was uncomfortable.
"We have a free period." he said more to Melinda to use as an excuse than to the professor, who was hopefully not quite in hearing distance yet. Shendeth promptly pulled the biggest book out of his bag and propped it up so as to hide inconspicuously behind it and ignore the teacher.

Melinda was shock that Shendeth save her from getting into trouble as she open her potion book again to study until Snape left the area. When he was away from the Slytherin's table she turn to Shendeth.
"Why did you save me, we are not friends yet?" asked Melinda as she closed her book again.

Shendeth looked up at Melinda in some surprise at the question. As soon as Snape had gone out of sight his own book was put away. He hadn't actually been thinking like that at all. The fact was that they were both skipping class; he had been saving himself and in doing so tried to divert some of the professor's attention to Melinda and away from him. She just happened to be there and in the same situation, and Shendeth hadn't thought about whether to save both of them or only himself, it just came out that way.
He shrugged. "I didn't think of it like that. I was saving myself, you're just here too." It was true, they had hardly met before, so that worked both ways in that he had no reason to dislike her. He was very far from being a nice person and anyone who had the impression otherwise was much deluded, but still saw no sense in intentionally being mean to someone who seemed alright.
